Haz-Mat Awareness/ERG Book
Course Description:
This class is designed to provide Awareness-Level Training for first responders. It is for responders who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous materials release and will initiate a response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. It will concentrate on detecting a hazardous situation and making the appropriate calls to secure the scene and prevent contamination.
You will also learn how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook. The OSHA 1910.120 standard outlines the minimal training required of each employee that has the potential of witnessing or discovering a hazmat incident. These individuals include firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, security guards, and certain industrial workers. From informal detection methods to protective actions, your personnel will be fully informed of their responsibilities and have the knowledge to safely carry out the duties of the hazmat awareness level.
Student Criteria:
This course is open to all Emergency Management, Rescue, Fire, Emergency Medical, and Law Enforcement personnel or any organization having responsibility for a hazardous materials incident.
Special Notes:
Advance student registration is REQUIRED and must be received by 1/31/2012 in order to participate in this course. MAXIMUM # of student seats available is twenty-four (24). You are considered accepted as a student in this class upon receipt of your application by this office so you will not receive a letter acknowledging that acceptance.

Course Description:
The 40-hour course provides HAZMAT Team members with the basic knowledge and skills to take appropriate offensive or defensive action that would require level A & B protection at an incident. Topics of instruction include: identification & classification of materials, selection of PPE, hazard & risk assessment techniques and advanced control & containment operations. Students will also acquire an understanding of basic chemical and toxicological behavior as well as how to function within the Incident Command System. Instruction will include classroom and hands on exercises. Familiarity with SCBA is necessary. Students must also not have any medical problems, which would preclude them from participating in hands on exercises.
Student Criteria:

Topics includes: basic hazard and risk assessment, proper selection of PPE, basic containment and confinement operations and decontamination. This course is a prerequisite for the HAZMAT Technician Course
Student Criteria:
[This course is open to all Emergency Management, Rescue, Fire, Emergency Medical, and Law Enforcement personnel or any organization having responsibility for responding to a hazardous materials incident. There are no pre-requisites for this course. Although a Haz-Mat Awareness Class would be beneficial to the student.
Special Notes:
Advance student registration is REQUIRED and must be received by [THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2012] in order to participate in this course. MAXIMUM # of student seats available is twenty–four (24). You are considered accepted as a student in this class upon receipt of your application by this office so you will not receive a letter acknowledging that acceptance.
This class will be taught over several days. Starting March 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, and conclude on the 29. Times are 7:00pm-10:00pm each night. On Saturday, March 31 there will be KCTCS testing and IFSAC testing. Time for test is 10:00am-2:00pm.
